Description
This is a traditional botanical plate of willowherb, a plant native to Washington state and surrounding areas in North America. This weed is extremely successful and can be found all over in yards and parks as well as out in green areas beyond the towns and cities.
I drew this plate from the ample specimens in my own container garden. I inspected the tiny seeds and flowers with a dissecting scope. To the naked eye those little seeds have little texture, but under a scope even bits of pollen take on interesting shapes.
The original drawing was done on smooth paper at 11"x14" with the intention that it would be reduced to 8.5"x 11" for print. The text and scale bars were added to the scanned illustration digitally since my handwriting isn't up to the level of my drawing. I recommend printing this on smooth paper, at least at smaller sizes, to preserve the detail.
