Description
In October of 2019 I traveled to Rwanda. While I was there I hiked into the bamboo forest to see a group of wild golden monkeys. I didn't realize until then how badly I needed to see golden monkeys! The mountain gorillas get all the attention (and they are indeed magnificent), but the local golden monkeys are an adorable surprise. They are small (they seemed similar to domestic cats in size), incredibly fluffy, and active. It was the beginning of bamboo shoot season so they were all around us in the towering bamboo forest, scattering rain from overhead and on the ground grabbing shoots for lunch.
This drawing, based on a photo I took, is of one golden monkey lunching on a shoot while watching all the fun. The original drawing is about 5 x 7" and drawn with ink and craft knife on Ampersand Scratchbord.
